Handball is one of the oldest sports in the world. In Homer's famous book ODYSSEY, this ball sport is mentioned. In reliefs dating back to 600 BC, there are signs that this sport was played in Athens. In his work PHAEDON, Plato, one of the famous thinkers of the ancient times, mentioned patched balls painted in 12 different colors. Roman physician Claudius Galenus, who lived between 130-200 BC, mentions in his books a similar play to Handball which he called Harpston.
